Blog #3 From Pen to Pixel: A Personal Reflection on My Digital Writer’s Notebook Journey

Image
What is digital media? D igital media as   media in a form that can be stored, read, seen, etc. using a computer, such as news websites, social media, electronic books, and digital video, images, or music  (Cambridge Dictionary, n.d.) .   By using a digital writer’s notebook , I felt unsure and intimidated. I felt ambivalent at the thought of leaving behind the comfort of pen and paper to try something new. Paper had always been my safe space where I can complete tasks in a simple, quiet, and personal way. I worried that moving online would take away that intimacy and bury my emotions beneath unfamiliar tools and screens. I was used to the comfort of holding a notebook, the scratch of ink, the freedom to scribble and cross things out. A paper notebook had always felt like a private space where my thoughts could spill out any without pressure. So, stepping into the digital space felt almost like entering unfamiliar territory. At first, the digital features overwhelm...

Blog #2 Building a Voice in the Digital Space

Creating this digital media piece was both challenging and exciting, as I explored how various elements such as images, music, pictures, and videos could work together to strengthen my message. Crafting in an electronic environment allowed me to experiment with sound, visuals, and layout in ways that traditional writing alone could not. Each component added depth, emotion, and clarity to the story I wanted to tell. This is what led me to shape my final composition around a monologue to the Minister of Health, a form that gave my grief a destination and my voice a purpose. By blending text with multimedia tools, I was able to express my pain, my hope, and my demand for change in a way that felt powerful and deeply personal. One of the most important things I learned from composing with multiple modes is how inclusive and accessible multimodal storytelling can be. A digital piece does not rely only on printed words. The images, music, and pacing help carry the meaning, so even vie...

Writing Traits!

Image
When we think about what makes writing meaningful and purposeful, the six traits of writing, sometimes referred to the six ingredients of writing, provides a clear framework. These traits include ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. Each of which plays a significant role in the writing process, but none can stand alone. Similar to ingredients in a recipe, they all depend on each other to create writing that is rich in meaning and effective in communication.           For students, this framework is especially important, since it gives them a way to see writing not as one big, overwhelming task, but as a process that can be broken down into manageable parts that can be done over time. Strong ideas need solid organization, voice is strengthened by precise word choice, and conventions ensure clarity so the reader can fully engage with the text. Together, these traits help students produ...

The Writing Process

Image
Writing is an essential part of life, IT IS A LIFE SKILL! 👌Students must appreciate and understand the importance of writing  ✍ in their daily lives and to their future. Learning how to teach the writing process has been one of the most eye-opening experiences in my journey as an English teacher. I’ve discovered how crucial it is to guide students through brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing ✍ , while helping them see that mistakes are part of growth . Watching students develop their ideas, gain confidence, and find their voice has shown me how to structure lessons that are both supportive and challenging. For me, teaching writing isn’t just about assignments, it’s about empowering students to express themselves and embrace the power of their own words💓.

Blog #1 Does It Matter How We Write? A Reflection on Tradition and Technology

Writing✍ has taken on so many new dimensions in this digital age💻, and my experience with it has been both liberating and transformative. As compared to the days of paper and pen, writing through electronic platforms such as Microsoft Word , email or even social media feels far more immediate, flexible, and dynamic. For me, one of the greatest advantages of writing electronically is the built in support within these tools. Features such as predictive texts , grammar corrections and formatting options this makes it easier to shape my ideas into coherent, polished and appealing pieces. I am no longer stuck on spelling or structure; I can place way more emphasis on what I really want to say. This makes me so much more willing to express myself freely, knowing that I have these digital tools to refine my words afterward. At the same time, I appreciate the way electronic writing extends beyond the written word. An essay on Microsoft Word can be transformed with fonts , c...
